Do you have questions about the ADA? No, I'm not talking about the American Dental Association or the Allied Document Alliance. I'm talking about the Americans with Disabilities Act, the ADA. So, do you have questions? Do you wonder what conditions are covered by the ADA? Do you want to know how to request a reasonable accommodation at work? Maybe you're not even sure what "reasonable" means when it comes to accommodations. Do you wish you knew what to say to inaccessible businesses to let them know their obligations under the ADA? Do you want to know the difference between a service animal and a therapy animal? How do you request a sign language interpreter? If you have those questions, and others about the ADA and other disability laws, then the Disability Law Lowdown Podcast is for you.

We're going to have podcasts about every two weeks, and we've got a lot of topics to cover. We're going to start with an overview of the legal system -- the Federal Government, the different kinds of laws we have and who is responsible for each, our judicial system. And we're hoping that will give you a foundation on which you can build your knowledge base about disability law. Then we'll get into all kinds of disability law topics, from employment, to accessibility, to airlines, to housing, to state and local government programs, to special education, to universities, to effective communication, to reasonable accommodation, to undue burden, to service animals, to.. well, I could keep this list going for a really long time. We are going to cover a whole lot of disability law topics. Plus, we'll talk about the latest cases that affect disability law as well as what Congress is doing to deal with disability issues.

There are two hosts for the Disability Law Lowdown. One is, well, me. I'm Jacquie Brennan. I'm an attourney and my whole career has been devoted to disability law. I first got interested in that area of the law because of my nine children, the youngest five of whom are adopted and have different kinds of disabilities. I love being a lawyer, in spite of all the lawyer jokes, and I'm passionate about disability law.

And the other host is someone you may already have heard of, Lex Frieden. Lex is one of the architects of the Americans with Disability Act. He's the founder and director of ILRU, Independent Living Research Utilization, and a professor at both the University of Texas Health Science Center and the Baylor College of Medicine. Lex and I look forward to bringing you the Disability Law Lowdown Podcasts.
